Agricultural producers in the village of Risso achieved several improvements during 2016.
The “animal capital” has increased and today more than 20 families in the village own sheep and cattle.
Having animals means not only improving the diet, but also having valuable compost to fertilize the land in a natural way and is a form of “insurance” against sudden events: selling an animal you can respond to health emergencies or plan the investments necessary for the education of children.
In addition, several experimental millet fields have been set up to enhance the production of this traditional, highly nutritious cereal.
The lessons learned from the experimentation have been discussed and shared between the different families of the village and will be extended to nearby villages.
